Computers make all sorts of weird noises after a while, some good, some not so good. But did you know that those noises could be your computer telling you what’s wrong with them? That’s right, all those beeping sounds your computer makes aren’t just there to irritate you!
How are you supposed to know what sounds mean what, you ask? Don’t worry, we’re here to translate for you.
Clicks are generally ok as long as they are quiet. However, if the clicking noises becomes constant or loud then it’s a key indicator that something more serious is wrong with your computer. Loud clicks tend to mean that the hard drive is being damaged and as you can imagine, this isn’t ideal. You should get this checked as soon as you can to avoid further damage.
The beeping sounds you hear your computer make can be completely innocent. When you switch it on and it makes a few beeps this is most likely your computer letting you know that it ran a quick test to make sure everything thing was ok.
If you do however hear more beeps than usual, or beeps are random times, this is likely to be your computer warning you that something is wrong. Our advice is to get it looked at by one of our experts before anything bad (and expensive!) goes wrong.
Does your computer sound as though it’s about to take off? You’ve probably already guessed that it’s to do with the fans. However, they shouldn’t sound this extreme all the time. They’re there to cool your computer and if they sound like a jet taking off, your computer is certainly getting too hot.
Of course, there are exemptions. If you’re working your computer to the bone by editing videos or streaming tv for hours on end, then your computer probably needs an extra boost to help cool it.
Top tip – Make sure you keep your computer in a well-ventilated area and away from any heaters.
If you notice that the fans constantly sound loud, make sure you bring it in and let us have a look for you.
This shouldn’t happen. If your computer makes a loud clunking sound you should bring it in to us as soon as possible. It could just be the fan hitting something that has jolted. However, there really aren’t many reasons why this would happen so we advise having an expert looking at it for you.
If your computer is making a strange sound and you’re worried about it, give us a call on 03333 055 055. One of our experts will be able to tell you what’s wrong.
