Are you looking for the best possible internet for your company? Welcome to leased lines.

Your own private connection - not shared with anyone

To keep prices low, cheap broadband is shared amongst your neighbours. When everyone is online at once, the speed you actually get drops away.

A leased line is a dedicated connection from the nearest internet hub to your building, delivered over your own private fibre optic cable. Because it is dedicated to you, it is far more reliable.

If the internet is critical to your business, then a leased line is for you.

Why businesses choose a leased line

A dedicated line changes what you can rely on. Here is what you get that shared broadband can't offer.

No Contention Ratio

Unlike other broadband, leased lines are not shared. That means no competition over the connection at peak times - the full speed is always yours.

Symmetrical Speeds

A leased line is symmetrical - download and upload speeds are identical, whereas other broadband lines have a much lower upload speed. Ideal for cloud files, backups and video calls.

4-Hour Response*

If something happens to your internet, Openreach targets having an engineer actively working on the fault within 4 hours - day or night - on our Enhanced Care service levels. That's a response commitment, not a guarantee every fault is fully fixed inside the window; see our FAQs below for exactly what's covered.

Not sure a leased line is right for you?

Leased lines are the gold standard, but they aren't the only option. If a fast standard connection would do the job, we'll tell you honestly and quote for that instead - see how they compare below, or check out our superfast broadband page.

Give us a call on 03333 055 055 and we'll talk through what your business actually needs.

*The 4-hour figure is Openreach's target response time to have an engineer working on a qualifying fault under Enhanced Care service levels - it is not a guarantee that every fault is fixed within 4 hours. See our FAQs for the full detail.

Leased line vs broadband

Leased lines are a natural step up from standard business broadband. Here's how they compare against Full Fibre, Fibre, SoGEA and ADSL.

Leased line questions answered

The things businesses ask us most before ordering a leased line.

How long does installation take?
Most leased lines are installed within 45-90 days of the order being placed, depending on whether Openreach needs to run new fibre to the building. We give you a realistic timeline once we've checked your postcode, and keep you updated at every stage.
What happens during the 4-hour fix window - is that guaranteed compensation or just response time?
The 4-hour figure is Openreach's target to have an engineer actively working on a qualifying fault, not a guarantee that every fault is fully resolved within that window. It applies to Enhanced Care service levels and excludes issues outside Openreach's network, such as your own router or in-building cabling. Where the SLA is missed, service credits may apply depending on your contract - we'll confirm the exact terms for your line before you sign anything.
What speeds are typically available?
Business leased lines typically range from 10Mbps up to 10Gbps, with the same speed guaranteed in both directions. Which speeds are available at your address depends on the local Openreach infrastructure - we'll confirm exact options once we've checked your postcode.
Do I need a leased line, or would fibre broadband do?
If your team mainly browses and emails, full fibre broadband is usually enough and considerably cheaper. A leased line earns its cost when uptime and upload speed are business-critical - heavy cloud use, large file transfers, VoIP at scale, or multiple sites relying on the same connection. We'll tell you honestly which one fits before you commit to either.
